If You Could Read My Mind 03/06/2011
If you could read my mind, what a tale my thoughts would tell. If you were a human, reading the output of my canine brain might be a bit of a challenge. We dogs probably don't use the same "words" to describe the environment as you do, or form the same mental pictures or representations. Still, if the mechanics of the situation could be finessed somehow, wouldn't it be a trip to be able to look out through the eyes of another creature and sense stimuli and input the way he or she feels it? Then to understand how the stimuli is processed and acted upon by the mind you're now visiting, that would be a revelation. If you could read my mind, what a tale my thoughts would tell. Each dog has his own story to tell, and I use my own mind as an example only because, as dogs go, it would be a particularly interesting mind for you to visit if you had the opportunity:) If I could read your mind, I'm sure that your thoughts too, would embody a narrative, and tell a tale that is uniquely individual. Your history and your hardware, and the mental map of the cosmos that you have generated based on your experience would be different than mine. Even though all of you humans look alike on the outside, (at least from the perspective of us dogs), inside, in the realm of neurons and synapses, you are profoundly individual. It's been postulated that there are more potential synaptic switch settings in the brain, than there are protons and electrons in the cosmos. It's a wonder that individuals find any common ground. A visit by one human, into the workings of another's mind would be the most fascinating experience that I can think of. Some say that to be human, is to be misunderstood. If I could read your mind love; know the nuts and bolts of it, the yearnings unfulfilled, the dreams put on hold, the measure of your good will; it might bring out the good things in me, and in you. If I could read your mind.
